Minister Indicates Annual Adjustment Plan of 1.9% for Civil Servants until 2026

The Minister of Management and Innovation in Public Services, Esther Dweck, met with union leaders this Thursday (11) to present the federal government's proposal for a salary adjustment for public servants. The proposal foresees an increase of 19% by 2026, divided into three stages:

  • 2024: In 2024, there will be no linear adjustment, however, there will be a recovery of inflationary losses from 2023, which will be defined in May;
  • 2025: Adjustment of 5% in January and 4.5% in December;
  • 2026: Adjustment of 4.5% in January and 4% in December.

Staggered adjustment below inflation

Trade unions criticized the government's proposal, demanding a linear adjustment of 19% in 2024 to make up for inflationary losses in recent years.

The civil servants argue that the staggered adjustment proposed by the government does not keep up with inflation and, therefore, does not represent a real adjustment of their salaries.

Priority for university technicians

Minister Esther Dweck highlighted that the government's priority at this time is to negotiate with technicians at federal universities, who have been on strike since March 28.

The minister met with representatives of the category on Thursday afternoon (11) and presented a proposal that includes a salary adjustment and the creation of a working group to discuss other demands.

Other measures for servers

In addition to the salary adjustment, the government also announced other measures for public servants, such as:

  • Food assistance: Increase from R$ 458 to R$ 658, starting in May;
  • Transportation voucher: Creation of a working group to discuss the modernization of the benefit;
  • Health Plan: Review of the contract with the company that manages the employees' health plan.

Reaction of trade unions

The trade unions have not yet officially commented on the measures announced by government. However, negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days.

The impact of the salary adjustment on public finances is still being calculated by the government. However, Minister Esther Dweck stated that the government is committed to fiscal sustainability and that the adjustment will be made within the budget's possibilities.

The proposed salary adjustment for public servants is a complex issue that has generated debate between the government and trade unions. Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming days to reach an agreement that is satisfactory to both parties.
